Shinjuku
In February, 2020 the high-end members-only meat and sake specialty restaurant '29ON' opened a casual 角打ち(kaku uchi) bar in Nishi-Shinjuku that offers its members all-you-can-drink sake and various tapas featuring sous vide-cooked wagyu.

Concept

29ON Kakuuchi is a small sake bar with a membership system. The membership costs ¥6,000 for a year. After becoming a member, guests pay ¥3,000 to enter, allowing them unlimited access to any of the 30 varieties of sake available on that day. The excellent sake is hand-selected by Takagi-san, the Okami in charge at 29ON Kakuuchi, and there's no time limit, meaning guests can relax and chat with Takagi-san and the other regular patrons.

While the main 29ON (niku-on) locations in Shinjuku, Ginza, Ikebukuro, and Omotesando are a bit pricier and require a reservation for members to dine there, the 29ON Kakuuchi Bar in Nishi Shinjuku allows members to casually walk in and enjoy excellent sake and tsumami at a reasonable price without needing to make a reservation. It's a great place to have conversations and meet other people working in Nishi Shinjuku.

In addition to the outstanding selection of sake, tapas-style dishes can also be ordered for between ¥500 and ¥1,000. The quality of the dishes is similar to what you might find in one of the high-end courses at the main 29ON locations, but the style of the dish is a bit more casual, designed to be slowly enjoyed while sipping on sake.

29ON started with the concept of offering dinner courses with high-quality wagyu cooked sous vide in a members-only format. Just like at the main 29ON locations, sous vide-cooked wagyu is featured heavily at 29ON Kakuuchi, but in more casual, finger-food style dishes. Delicious tapas-style food dishes that are intended to accompany sake are available for between ¥500~¥1,000.

29ON strives to introduce incredibly delicious wagyu varieties that don't get the attention that well-known name-brand wagyu does. Over several years of operation, the chefs at 29ON have developed some truly delicious sous vide-cooked dishes that they believe bring out the optimum flavor from the premium meat. If you've never tried premium wagyu cooked in this way before, you're in for a treat!

Visiting 29ON Kakuuchi
29ON Kakuuchi is a members-only restaurant meaning that a yearly membership must be purchased online before visiting for the first time. The memberships are available for ¥6,000 and can be purchased on the official website. Members are then able to go alone or bring a guest whenever they visit 29ON Kakuuchi. Most members go without a reservation, but it is also possible to make a reservation on the website if you like.
