Beer is pretty good in Japan and among the best brands Sapporo Beer definitely comes to mind. The company even has its own museum in Sapporo. The Sapporo Beer Museum is really popular, and for good reasons! You get an interesting history of beer in Japan, plus you can sample loads of beer at a really cheap price!

Sapporo Beer Museum

Japanese people only started drinking beer once the country opened up to the world in the later part of the 19th century. Sapporo is where beer brewing all started in Japan. The factory building of the Sapporo Sugar Company established in 1890 is now what is the museum.
The beautiful brick museum has three floors and the entrance fee is... nothing! The place was registered as one of Hokkaido's Heritage sites in 2004.
In the museum you'll learn about the history of people involved in the brewing history of Hokkaido. There are some antique bottles, really nice posters and some display of the equipment originally used for brewing.

Beer Tasting!

The fun part is on the second floor where there is the museum's own bar.
You can try out generous samples of Sapporo Beer products. A set of three beers is only 600 yen!
Some 50 minute tours at the end of which there is beer tasting are also available for 500 yen. However they are only offered in Japanese and reservations must be made.

Sapporo Beer Garden

Connected to the museum is the Sapporo Beer Garden
Aside for the delicious beer coming straight from the factory, at the beer garden you have got to have Hokkaido's local specialty called the Genghis Khan. It's a kind of lamb yakiniku served with lots of vegetables.

There are a variety of all-you-can-eat courses available here from about 3,000 to 6,000 yen. Not only you get great Hokkaido food and beer, but you also get to have it in an impressive Meiji era atmosphere!
